Welcome to an Open Lecture on Zoöp - an organisational model for cooperation between human and nonhuman life that safeguards the interests of all zoë (Greek for 'life'). The zoöp model makes the interests of nonhuman life part of organisational decision-making.

In this Open Lecture, participants will be guided by Klaas Kuitenbrouwer and Wietske Nutma from the Nieuwe Instituut - the Zoöp team - and familiarised with the practicalities of Zoöp, learning how to incorporate the voices and interests of non-human life into the planning and decision-making of any organisation.

We hope that all participants, through this Open Lecture, will be supported in their respective work with strengthening marine ecosystems and human-sea relations.

Speakers

Klaas Kuitenbrouwer
Director, Zoönomic Institute

Klaas Kuitenbrouwer is the director of the Zoönomic Institute and the initiator of Zoöp, he is also a senior researcher in regenerative practices at het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam and teaches theory at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. He studied history but has always worked at the intersections of art, design, technology and ecology. In his work he is drawn to the frictions between different knowledge practices: technological, artistic, legal, organisational, scientific, and more-than-human. In recent years, he researched and curated, among other programs: Garden of Machines (2015), Gardening Mars (2017), Bot Club and the Neuhaus Temporary Academy for more-than-human knowledge (2019). This led to the initiation of the Zoöp project.
